There's an ele drok run build buried deep in Tyrian, I believe. Regardless, you'd have to clear the side passage on the east... hench is the only way
94.5% atm on mesmer, definitely easier on warrior because they can solo through many areas just by pure force, where hench fail.

Actually an ele might be better suited to getting the title.
Achieving grandmaster is an isepid task of spider crawling on just about every wall you can find.
As I was doing it with my ranger, I started out doing running builds just about everywhere. But often found I had to switch to a fighting build to get most of it.
It is a mix of running and fighting that you will have to do. Running alone will not get it all done, imo. You will run into too many places where you have to get right up to an edge and spend a lot of time in crevices while trying to avoid mobs. It is much easier to just clear the mob and then move on and take your time to make sure you have fully explored.
I started out wanting to do this on my ele since he was my first character, but then switched to my ranger as he had more opened and could be more successful running. I wound up doubling back over previously explored areas a number of times having to fight just to finish it up to 100%.
I will not be attempting this on another character now that I have it done.
Just knowing where you are going and the types of mobs will determine if you should mainly fight or run. Just mix and match and you can get it done

You can see most of the combat area of Ascalon from the place where it starts. The guard will let you into the holding area, I already went in there with my mesmer.

You can explore the tar river in Old Ascalon - reveals a good portion near the arena fight.

Ya, getting 100% with an ele is difficult as I should know. My ele is currently at 89.2%, getting there!

My ele had 100% when the titles went in. Then again, I am a ninja at wall hugging. She now also has 90% for Cantha.

Well i got 100% of Tyria map done (nutty i know) so if u wanna run just changed your secondary pro to ranger (El/Ranger). If not i remember sacrificing my hench group a lot in Lornars pass. Most places i fought through, it takes patience. Yes those Frost Imps up in Mineral Springs north east they got me like 10 times as i went a little berserk there.
Good luck! /Fiona Tempest (el/mo)

After the preview Nightfall weekend I started to go for the canthan title. I had set my monk to monk class only during nightfall weekend (I find it cool looking) and didn't get a second class again since then. Got the grandmaster title yesterday and I did notice I had to use a different style compared when I was mo/ra when I got the Tyrian title. I died more and I had to fight and clean some areas. There can be many other causes for this like the difference in areas etc. but it's just the impression I have.

I find it easier to just hench it. I cleared snake dance with my warrior, mostly becasue I wanted to cap earthshaker, but it took awhile and I had 60dp untill I capped, but it was worth it. It actually feels good to have cleared a place like that out.

Yes. My ranger did. My ranger has grandmaster cartographer but doesn't run. Period. She fights. And caps. And has fun. So take out a full party of hench and get to it!

Same here. Most tedious title ever. One character is enough!

Running for cartography is overrated anyway, you'll never get 100% if you run everywhere as most of the time you'll be going back to places you already ran to get the bits you inevitably missed. Stick to clearing places out.
Regarding 'respect' for the title, I respect anyone who has made it from 95% to 100%, as I know how much of a pain in the arse it is to achieve. Yes, even with photoshop.

An elementalist as primary char here too, and I'm almost at 95% at Tyria and 94% at Cantha. So I know its not easy, but it really feels rewarding to know you almost uncovered every thing on the map

Didn't find it any harder with my ele than any other class. In fact easier at times. I map as I play the game so everything dies and no running regardless of class.

I have been working on the Cartographer titles with my monk. My monk is my main character, so she must have them done. I'm up to 91.8% or Tyria and 98.9% of Cantha. Healing through everything with henchies where I can and guildies who are also obsessed where I can't. It is often very annoying and sometimes takes ages to get a small section cleared. I don't use running skills at all for mapping. It took me a couple tries yesturday to get the area where Sunreach is done, since I was using henchies and he surprised me! It is good to have guildies who are dying to get KOABD as much as I am, I can ask them for help if I get really desparate.
We are cheapskates too, so paying for a title even as cool looking as incorgable ale hound is considered a bit of a waste in my guild. One of my guildies recently got his skill hunter title as maxed as he can get it too. I'm in a bit of a race with him to get the Cartographer titles done and then on to KOABD!
